The letter that Herr Sindberg brought today from Hsi Sha Shan (Sindberg drives back and forth with no problem between Nanking and the Kiangnan Cement Works, a good 1.5 hours away) also included a petition to the Japanese authorities from 17, 000 Chinese refugees in Hsi Sha Shan asking to be mercifully protected from the excesses of the Japanese soldiers, who are causing the same havoc there as here in Nanking.

In 1938, farmers in Qixia District of Nanjing sent a silk banner of appreciation to Mr. Sindberg. This banner was first brought to Shanghai by Guenther and then was forwarded to Mr. Sindberg through the Consulate General of the Kingdom of Denmark in Shanghai.
To speak for the refugees, Sindberg sent out totally five letters.
He recorded the Japanese atrocities and exposed its evil crimes.
He filmed the Japanese crime evidence for the retention of precious video records.
He organized the people to bury the bodies of the victims, giving full play to the humanitarian spirit.
In June 1938, Sindberg aired a documentary on Japanese army’s atrocities in Nanjing at China International Library, Geneva. As the content of the film was savagely violent, women and children were strongly asked to leave first. He elaborated on the brutal atrocities of the Japanese army while the film was broadcast, the audience choking with sobs.
