It is the seat of the "think tank" of the International Committee for Nanjing Safety Zone, the Committee's inaugural meeting was held there, and John Rabe was elected chairman of the International Committee; at the same time, Pearl Buck's former residence as a refugee shelter, rescued a large number of refugees. Therefore, Nanjing University built John Rabe's and Pearl Buck's former residence as a memorial hall. Currently, they are both listed as landmarks of the World Literature Capital.
