On the afternoon of May 29, 2024, Nanjing University John Rabe and International Safety Zone Memorial Hall welcomed a group of special visitors: descendants of Charles Henry Riggs (Chinese name "Lin Chali"), Steven Hankin and David Hankin, as well as his great-granddaughter Moriah Lefebvre.

During the visit,  Yu Qing from John Rabe Memorial Hall introduced the life of John Rabe and the contributions of the members of the Safety Zone, and gave detailed answers to the guests' questions. In front of the exhibition board of Riggs, they took a group photo to commemorate this historic moment.

Charles Riggs' descendants came to Nanjing this time specially to donate 8 sets of precious cultural relics and historical materials, including the blue jade medal awarded to Riggs during his lifetime, to the Memorial Hall of the Victims of the Nanjing Massacre , providing the public with more opportunities to understand this history.

As early as May 10, 2024, American youth Chris Hankin (Chinese name: Lin Kui) visited Nanjing University John Rabe and International Safety Zone Memorial Hall of accompanied by Li Xiaorong, position of Chinese Co-Director of The Johns Hopkins University - Nanjing University Center for Chinese and American Studies.

Lin Kui is the great-grandson of Charles Riggs, a member of the International Committee of the Nanjing Safety Zone during the Nanjing Massacre. He came to Nanjing in 2023 to study at The Johns Hopkins University-Nanjing University Center for Chinese and American Studies. After delving into the heroic deeds of John Rabe and the historical background of the Nanjing Safety Zone, Lin Kui expressed his hope to revisit John Rabe Memorial Hall with his parents in the future, to experience and feel the traces of life and work left by the predecessors in Nanjing, especially the deep friendship that transcends national boundaries for the sake of world peace and humanitarianism.

In 1937, on the eve of the Japanese siege of Nanjing city, Rabe was elected Chairman of the International Committee for the Nanjing Safety Zone. Rabe, together with a dozen of other international committee members, saved the lives of more than 250,000 Chinese people within the Safety Zone, an area that was in his charge and was no larger than 4 km2. Charles Riggs, an American professor at University of Nanking at the time, was an important member of the Nanjing Safety Zone International Committee. During the Nanjing Massacre by the Japanese forces, he stayed in Nanjing and made a great contribution to protecting and rescuing Chinese refugees.
